Vignettes for Valentine’s
Runway Theatre is excited to bring back a beloved tradition with Vignettes for Valentine's, an evening of original short plays celebrating love in all its forms. Selected works will be presented as part of a special Valentine's Day fundraiser on Saturday,February 13, 2027, with both a matinee and evening performance. Whether your story is funny, romantic, bittersweet, heartwarming, awkward, or completely unexpected, we want to read it!
Submitted plays should explore themes related to:
Love
Relationships
Romance
Friendship
Heartbreak
Family connections
Dating
Marriage
Second chances
The many ways people connect with one another
Because this event is intended for a broad audience and serves as a fundraiser for Runway Theatre:
Excessive profanity should be avoided
No graphic violence
No explicit sexual content
Adult themes are acceptable when handled thoughtfully and appropriately
Runway Theatre reserves the right to make final determinations regarding content suitability
Writers are encouraged to think creatively as not every story needs to be a traditional romance. Authors retain ownership of their work. By submitting, playwrights grant Runway Theatre permission to produce the piece as part of Vignettes for Valentine's should it be selected.
Please note: because Vignettes for Valentine's is a fundraiser, selected playwrights are not financially compensated. We’re very grateful for all who offer their work in the volunteer-spirit Runway is known for, and appreciate their support of local theatre.
The submission deadline is September 25, 2026 and authors will be notified of their acceptance status in November.

A mix of comedic, dramatic, and heartfelt pieces may be selected to create a varied and entertaining evening.
A note about design and technical elements:
We encourage playwrights to include notes about technical or design elements that are important to the way you envision your piece. That said, we’ll feature multiple short plays as part of one evening, so transitions between pieces need to be practical and efficient. We recommend keeping sets, props, costumes, sound cues, and other technical elements simple and we appreciate your understanding that final decisions will be made by the selected directors, based on the needs of the full event. Our goal is to honor the spirit of your stories while creating a cohesive, enjoyable experience for both the performers and the audience.
