Not many miles, but a world away from hectic New York City, an idyllic afternoon in 1953, sets the stage for the Hines family and acquaintances to bid summer farewell. Burt Hines awaits his estranged wife, in hopes of rekindling romance, while their daughter sorts out her own rebuffed and burgeoning love interests. Even the story’s narrator, Clemma, ponders a past partner. Old wounds are opened and grievances forgiven – all through Simon’s trademark humor. It may be the last weekend these nine people converge upon a country getaway in the Poconos, but the lessons they learn will affect them for seasons to come.
